FROM
THE PRESIDENT’S DESK
Just when I thought Racing’s Night of
Champions couldn’t possibly get any better, it does!!
What
an exceptional event and truly THE event when it comes to
racing awards nights. I admit I am biased on this issue
but who could blame me?
To see this event televised live to
the world via our exclusive media partner Sky Racing on
Sky Racing World makes me as
the Dinner Chairman of the event a very proud man.
David Campbell
was, as always, simply superb. This gentleman certainly knows
how to communicate to his audience. The rapport
he has with them is something to behold. If you haven’t
seen him perform live I suggest you do so as soon as you
get a chance – you will love it.
So why is Racing’s
Night of Champions so good? A few reasons come to mind. Firstly
the participation of the award
nominees with their passion for the horses they love igniting
when their names are announced certainly adds to the wonderful
atmosphere. And then, of course, there are the people behind
the scenes that go that “extra yard” to ensure
that guests will never forget the experience of attending
Racing’s
Night of Champions.
I extend my sincere gratitude to Kylie
Biggs and her team at Vinnies, Leahna Harvey and her team
at Arinex (our event
managers),
the incredible teams from SKY Racing and Infinity Media
and Communications and Sharon Hunt our Executive Officer
who
I cannot thank enough for her dedication to the success
of this
event.
I would also like to thank again all of
our sponsors and prize donors for their support of this wonderful
function
and look
forward to their participation again in 2012. |

BOBS & BOBS
EXTRA CLOSE 1 SEPTEMBER
That’s the most important date right
now if you own a 2-year-old that’s been sired by a
BOBS nominated stallion standing in NSW. The nomination form
and payment of $660 for the Breeder Owner Bonus scheme has
to reach Racing NSW by 1 September.
If you think your horse
will run on as a 4-year-old and is capable of getting 1600
metres or longer, then you should
also enter BOBS Extra. That closes the same day – 1
September – and you nominate on the same form as for
BOBS.
Together the BOBS and BOBS Extra fees will
cost $1500 but that’s a tiny amount in the overall cost of racing
a horse and in light of the bonus prize money you could win.
Rain
Affair (sired by Commands) topped the list of BOBS winning
racehorses in 2010-11 with $90,000 in bonuses from 6 victories.
Scarf (Lonhro) had amassed $75,000 in bonuses from 5 wins,
and then came two runners by Not a Single Doubt, Unanimously
($65,000) and Karuta Queen ($60,000).
For the full 2010-11
season 1088 bonuses were won, worth $7,361,250. This is
63 bonuses fewer than for 2009-10 and
that fall is attributable to the dreadfully wet conditions
that prevailed for much of the season, resulting in so
many meetings being abandoned.
177 BOBS bonuses were won by 2YOs
and 911 by 3YOs.
In the
first season of paying BOBS Extra bonuses there were 96
winners, collecting $690,000. Of those 96 bonuses, 8 were
won at Saturday metropolitan meetings, 21 at midweek metro
fixtures, 28 at provincial tracks, 35 at country TAB meetings
and 4 at non-TAB meetings. 21 of the BOBS Extra bonuses
were
won by maiden gallopers.
When you look at those figures there
shouldn’t be any
doubt in any owner’s mind that BOBS adds real value
to racing a horse in NSW, and contributes enormously to making
it financially viable.
If you don’t have a BOBS nomination
form for a horse which has just turned 2YO, you can download
one from the
Racing NSW website (www.racingnsw.com.au) or we can send
you one by email, fax or mail.
When you fill it out, be aware
that it’s cheaper to
post it to us with a cheque, because when you use a credit
card, Racing NSW adds the merchant fee charged by credit
card operators.
The bigger metropolitan stables sometimes
enter all their 2YOs together and then bill the owners
later, but not all
trainers do this, so check with your trainer to make sure
one of you is definitely putting in the nomination.
If you
miss the deadline it will cost you $5500 as a late nomination
fee, with no chance of entering BOBS Extra. There’s
now no late entry for BOBS once a horse turns 3YO – so
don’t miss the 1 September deadline!
If you have any
questions about BOBS or BOBS Extra, give me a call on (02)
9551 7574 or email me: jgatfield@racingnsw.com.au
Good
luck for season 2011-12 and let’s see if we can
make it another with a record payout for BOBS! |
