FROM THE PRESIDENT’S
DESK
I am very pleased to advise Members that Mr
Peter Beer has joined the NSWROA Committee.
Mr Beer is the Chief
Executive Officer of Patinack Farm, the racing and breeding
empire of Mr Nathan Tinkler, who has invested
millions of dollars to develop one of the leading commercial
thoroughbred organisations in the country. Mr Beer joined
Patinack Farm in December 2009 after some 22 years as a financial
executive
in the private and public companies of Kerry Packer.
With a
lifetime interest and involvement in the thoroughbred industry,
both locally and overseas, Mr Beer joins the NSWROA
Committee to fill a casual vacancy following the retirement
of Mr Michael Kissane.
NSWROA has been most fortunate to obtain
the services of Mr Beer for the NSWROA Committee. His background
in the finance
sector and his great passion for racing will make a valuable
addition to our Committee.
I would also like to take this opportunity
to personally thank former Committee Member Mr Michael Kissane
for his hard work
and support during his tenure on the Committee. On behalf
of my fellow Committee Members I wish Michael all the very
best
for the future.
With the expertise, experience and initiative
of the likes of Max Whitby (Propex & STC), Laurie Macri
(Macquarie Bank), Michael Inglis (Murrumbidgee Turf Club),
John Vouris (Lawler
Partners), Darren Farnham (Network 10), Narelle Anderson (Envirobank),
Chris Keogh and now Peter Beer (Patinack Farm), the Association
continues to grow in stature.
Mr Beer said “I am delighted
to be a part of the Committee of the NSW Racehorse Owners Association
and look forward to
working with all participants in the industry”.. |

2010 RACING'S NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS

The countdown is on for the Racing Industry’s
Night of Nights and the flagship event of the NSW Racehorse
Owners Association,
'Racing's Night of Champions'.
As members would be aware the
event is returning to The Grand Pavilion at Rosehill Gardens
on Thursday 12 August 2010 for
another magical night which is themed around “Celebrating
200 Years of Racing in New South Wales”.
As previous
attendees will attest to, Racing’s Night
of Champions is a great value night out. Not only do we:-
- honour the best racing talent in
New South Wales, including the Luxbet.com NSW Champion Horse
of the Year and
the Bart
Cummings Medalist;
- provide great entertainment;
- have sumptuous food
but the night also supports Redkite – supporting
children through cancer – to assist families at their
most difficult times.
During the evening both a Monster Auction
and a Silent Auction will be conducted. Without giving too
much away about the
night, hereunder are some of the amazing items that will
feature in
the Monster and Silent Auctions:

Horse Products, Jewellery, Memorabilia, Millinery and Technology,
to name but a few.
There will also be a raffle with exceptional
prizes conducted on the night and a “lucky door prize” will
also be awarded.
I am pleased to advise that NSWROA has again
arranged for a return bus service to the event for guests
at a nominal
fee.
The bus will travel between Randwick and Rosehill and bookings
for this service will be essential.
I’m sure the above
items have well and truly attracted your attention and
will have you racing to book your seat for
the night.
As a small gesture to say thank you to members
attending our flagship event, members who purchase tickets
for 2010
Racing’s
Night of Champions will go into a post event draw to
win two FREE TICKETS to the 2011 Racing’s Night

to support our country colleagues, I am very pleased to advise
that the Association will be sponsoring the NSW Racehorse Owners

WINNERS ARE GRINNERS
A WINNER – there are no better words
for an owner to hear!
As members are aware, as part of our
membership renewal process, NSWROA requested members to forward
the names of their racehorses
in order for us to acknowledge their racing triumphs in our
publications.
By popular demand, this feature has been “upgraded” for
the 2009/2010 racing season. Accordingly, hereunder are the

BOBS & BOBS
EXTRA UPDATE
We’re now at the start of the very
busy BOBS nomination period, and in the course of July and
August upwards of 3000 young gallopers will be nominated
for BOBS and BOBS Extra.
If you are nominating your rising
2-year-old remember that there is no late entry for BOBS
Extra – you must nominate
the horse for both BOBS and BOBS Extra on the one form, at
the same time!
The fee for BOBS is $660. The BOBS Extra
fee – if
you choose to enter that as well – is an additional
$840, a total of $1500. You cannot enter BOBS Extra without
nominating
for BOBS.
The deadline is 1 September. If you miss
that you’ll
have to pay a $5500 late fee and forego any chance of being
in BOBS Extra.
Please don’t wait until the last minute
to get your nomination forms to us. We will be swamped with
forms and
faxes in late August so there’s less chance of a form
going astray or being lost in fax congestion if you fill
out the entry now. The form declares there will be no refunds – but
we are prepared to make an exception if a horse paid up before
the 1 September deadline has to be destroyed.
BOBS Extra bonuses
will be won from 1 August as horses turning 4YO compete over
1600m and further. The Quirindi Jockey Club
has programmed two 1600m races on Sunday 1 August so these
will be the first eligible races. The first metropolitan
BOBS Extra bonus is available on the Kensington track on
Wednesday 4 August when the AJC has scheduled an 1800m Benchmark
70 handicap.
The wet weather in various parts of the
State during June played havoc with race meetings and reduced
the
number of
BOBS bonuses we paid out. There were 108 winners in June,
9 fewer than in the same month last year, and they were worth
$762,500 in cash terms. By the end of June 1010 bonuses had
been won, an increase of 117 on last season, with a cash
value of almost $7m.
Not surprisingly Sheikh Mohammed leads
the way among owners with 66 bonuses valued at $642,500.
No
matter whether you’re an owner with as many horses
in training as Sheikh Mohammed or with just one solitary
2YO, the BOBS bonuses add huge value and are worth every
dollar in making ends meet!
