NSWROA is pleased to announce that Tabcorp’s corporate bookmaking arm Luxbet.com will become a major partner with the Association in a one-year sponsorship deal.

In addition to being NSWROA’s Exclusive Wagering Partner, Luxbet.com has also secured the Principal Awards Sponsorship for this year’s NSWROA Racing’s Night of Champions with the Luxbet.com NSW Racehorse Of The Year award.

Luxbet.com General Manager of Marketing and Media Stephen Brassel said: “The partnership between Luxbet and NSWROA is an extremely important alliance which we see as being beneficial to the overall health of the racing industry in NSW.

NEW NSWROA COMMITTEE MEMBER

NSWROA President, Mr Ray McDowell, has great pleasure in announcing that Mr Michael Inglis will be joining the NSWROA Committee.

Mr Inglis, a prominent Barrister and Accredited Mediator, has a long association with the racing industry and has been racing and breeding horses for over 25 years. He is currently Vice President of the Murrumbidgee Turf Club (MTC), having been elected to the Board of the MTC in October 1998. Mr Inglis has been instrumental in improving conditions for owners both within the MTC and in the Southern Region and also for the preservation of a number of meetings and race clubs in the country sector.

Mr McDowell stated “NSWROA has been most fortunate to obtain the services of Mr Inglis for the NSWROA Committee. His background in the country sector of racing and his great passion for the industry will make a valuable addition to our Committee”.

Mr Inglis said “I am delighted to join the Committee of the NSW Racehorse Owners Association and look forward to working with all participants in the industry”.

Mr Inglis’ appointment will take effect from 7 July 2009.

2009 RACING’S NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS – A GRAND AFFAIR

NSWROA is, once again in 2009, proud to be hosting the Racing’s Night of Champions, the most prestigious charity award’s night in Australian racing.

44TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The forty-fourth Annual General Meeting of the NSW Racehorse Owners Association Limited (ACN 000 498 859) was held at 'The Rugby Club', Rugby Place, Off 31A Pitt Street, Sydney, 3rd Floor - Barbarian Room, on the 19 May 2009 at 6.00pm.

Our thanks to members who attended the meeting and stayed on for refreshments.

A WINNER – there are no better words for an owner to hear! As members are aware, as part of our membership renewal process, NSWROA requested members to forward the names of their racehorses in order for us to acknowledge their racing triumphs in our publications.

Accordingly, hereunder are the lucky NSWROA members who had winners in May 2009:

BOBS EXTRA

Following extensive lobbying by the NSWROA Committee, Racing NSW has agreed to the expansion of the Racing NSW Breeder Owner Bonus Scheme (BOBS). Our thanks to Racing NSW Board member Kim Harding for her support of our suggestion and its ultimate realisation.

BOBS Extra is an exciting expansion of the BOBS Scheme. The incumbent BOBS series have been highly successful, paying bonuses of up to $20,000 for wins by BOBS eligible racehorses of two and three years of age. BOBS Extra now builds on the success of BOBS, targeting middle distance and staying races for BOBS racehorses aged four years and older.

Objectives of BOBS Extra

BOBS Extra has been designed to cater for middle distance and staying horses sired by NSW based stallions, with the intention of building additional opportunities for these horses. Middle distance and staying races have been recognised by the Board of Racing NSW as an important segment of racing, ripe for reinvigoration.

It is an objective of Racing NSW to strengthen middle distance and staying racing in NSW and BOBS Extra is an important element of meeting this objective.

More specifically, BOBS Extra seeks to:
* Reinvigorate middle distance and staying races in NSWROA;
* Retain middle distance and staying racehorses in NSW (from export interstate and overseas);
* Encourage connections of horses to retain and show patience with slow maturing horses;
* Balance our breeding and enhance our international reputation; and
* Boost interest in middle distance and staying races in NSW.

Bonuses for BOBS Extra

BOBS Extra will be a bonanza for owners and it is expected that more than $2 million will be won collectively by each series (generation) of horses eligible for BOBS Extra.

Races Covered by BOBS Extra

BOBS Extra applies to all races of a distance 1600 metres and beyond (excluding Group and Listed), where these are won by BOBS Extra racehorses aged four years old and older.

Commencement of BOBS Extra

BOBS Extra commences in two stages:

1. Horses entered in the existing BOBS 2008 Series (two year old at 1 August 2008) are eligible to nominate by 1 September 2009, for an expansion of the existing BOBS series to commence 1 August 2010 (when these horses have turned 4 year old).

Nomination fee is expected to be $2,500.

2. Horses nominating for BOBS 2009 (turning two years old at 1 August 2009) will have the option of expanding their nomination to include BOBS Extra. BOBS Extra races for this series will commence from 1 August 2011 (when these horses have turned 4 year old). Nominations close 1 September 2009.

Nomination fee for BOBS Extra is $840, plus $660 to enter the incumbent BOBS Series (total of $1,500).

Eligibility for BOBS Extra

Ultimately all horses by BOBS stallions will be eligible for BOBS Extra. At the commencement of BOBS Extra, eligibility will be as follows:

1. For the extension of BOBS 2008, with BOBS Extra races commencing in August 2010, horses must have been nominated for BOBS 2008.

2. For BOBS 2009, horses must be sired by BOBS Nominated stallions and nominate for BOBS and BOBS Extra.

Incumbent BOBS Series

The incumbent BOBS series for two and three year olds remain in their existing form.

BOBS Extra provides a great incentive for owners to keep horses in work and training after their classic year.

NSWROA encourages all members to support BOBS Extra by nominating their horses for the Scheme.

STOP PRESS 2 – SCENIC BLAST AWESOME AT ASCOT

What a completely awesome display of sprinting by Western Australian galloper Scenic Blast (Scenic(IRE)-Daughter’s Charm) to win the Group 1 Kings Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday night. His dynamic turn of foot saw him gap the opposition in the twinkling of an eye.

Our congratulations to his many owners and to his trainer Danny Morton. This win was his third win at Group 1 level from his last four starts – a fantastic effort. We wish him well at his next outing in the Group 1 July Cup.

And lastly, our best wishes also to NSWROA member Joe Janiak with our great favourite Takeover Target in the Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes on Saturday night.
