PROPOSAL
FROM AUSTRALIAN JOCKEYS’ ASSOCIATION
The Association is seeking comments from Members on a proposal
from the Australian Jockey’s Association for a 1% increase
(from 5% to 6%) of the prescribed percentage of prizemoney
payable to jockeys. The proposal has been lodged by the AJA
with the Australian Racing Board and the matter is scheduled
to be considered in late March 2009.
The AJA has indicated that the 1% increase will be used
to:
(a) cover jockeys compulsory Public Liability Insurance premiums;
(b) fund a national Personal Accident Scheme for jockeys;
(c) support jockeys and their families in financial hardship due to death,
illness and injury through the National Jockeys Trust;
(d) fund other Welfare Programs, and
(e) assist with administration.
Further information on the Australian Jockey’s Association
can be obtained via their website http://www.australianjockeys.org/aja---home.html
If you would like to comment on this issue, your response
by email to nswroa1@ozemail.com.au by Monday 23 February
2009 would be appreciated.
