MEDIA RELEASE: Wednesday, 17 November 2010 A GREAT RESULT FOR THOROUGHBRED RACING IN NEW SOUTH WALES The NSW Racehorse Owners Association (NSWROA) today welcomed the decision of the three Federal Court Judges to rule in favour of Racing NSW on the Race Fields Legislation appeals before the Court. The decision will enable Racing NSW to charge wagering operators a 1.5% turnover fee on the NSW racing product and retain funds paid by corporate bookies since July 1, 2008. NSWROA President, Mr Ray McDowell said “The Association is delighted that Racing NSW has successfully defended its position regarding Race Fields Legislation. This verdict will allow the distribution of much needed funds to an industry that has suffered greatly from the lack of adequate funding.” Mr McDowell stated “the racing industry is now able to move forward and cement its position as the premium industry of the State. These funds together with the $174 million from the AJC/STC merger will again put NSW racing into the forefront of Australian racing. Our congratulations to Racing NSW on a fantastic result for our industry”. ENDS
