Racing’s Night of Champions – Thursday 9th August 2007

The Pavilion Royal Randwick Racecourse

The Event: Racing's Night of Champions

The NSW Racehorse Owners Association is, once again, proud to be hosting the Racing’s Night of Champions on Thursday, 9th August, 2007, at the Pavilion at Royal Randwick Racecourse.

This event is the most prestigious charity awards night in Australian racing, acknowledging the major achievements of the preceding season by NSW thoroughbreds and celebrating the success of their owners.  In 2007 we will be for the first time also recognizing the breeder and where the horse was sold from, although the award will rest solely with the owner of the horse.

It is also the occasion when the racing community gets together to help a worthy cause. This year, the event is again helping to raise money for Redkite who provide practical, financial, and emotional support for children battling childhood cancer, and their families.

Who attends: Guest Profile

TV personalities, the media and key racing industry identities and enthusiasts, including major trainers, owners and jockeys such as Gai Waterhouse, Darren Beadman, and Glenn Boss.  In addition, the night also attracts the support of major corporate sponsors such as ABN Amro, BT Financial Group, Deutsche Asset Managment, Macquarie Funds Management, Emirates, Sydney City Lexus and Network Ten to name just a few. The attendance record in 2006 exceeded 700 dinner guests.

About Redkite

It is hard to imagine the feeling of having your child diagnosed with cancer, but sadly for many families, it is a very real thing.

Redkite has provided practical support and guidance to children with cancer and their families for over 20 years. In Australia more than 1000 children are diagnosed with cancer or leukemia each year - thankfully more than 80% of them will survive due to advancements in medical and therapeutic techniques.  But the journey to a cure involves long and rigorous treatment periods which places the children and their families under enormous emotional and financial pressure.

To help alleviate this pressure, Redkite's services across Australia provide child specific needs, emotional support, educational tutors and music therapists who help children with pain management and stress relief.

Redkite receives no government funding and as such without the support of groups like the NSW Racehorse Owners Association their vital services could not continue.

Media Coverage

The profile of the night has risen in recent years with much effort and involvement from the NSWROA and participants, with TVN again covering the event in 2007. This coverage will be extended in 2007 and shown as a repeated special on TVN after the evening.

The Racing Night of Champions awards night is a black tie event special evening of great entertainment, fabulous food and some exceptional auction items and prizes with the main beneficiary of the night, Redkite, and the children with cancer who need our help.
