IMPORTANT NOTICE: COMMERCIAL HORSE ASSISTANCE PAYMENT (CHAPS)

HORSES IN WORK

Racing NSW is extremely pleased to advise that it has reached agreement with the Federal Minister for Agriculture The Hon. Peter McGauran to have CHAPS extended until 8 February 2008, or until all bans on horse movements are lifted, whichever is earlier.

However, there is a very important enhancement which benefits the NSW Racing Industry. The CHAPS payment will now be made for all horses that are in work on Monday 19 November 2007.

In other words, horses that were not in work at the time of the EI outbreak (25 August 2007) but have since entered work, become eligible for CHAPS from Tuesday 20 November 2007.

All applications to the CHAP scheme remain subject to payment guidelines that are determined by the Federal Government and Racing NSW.

CHAPS FOR HORSES CONTRACTING EI AND REQUIRED TO SPELL

Horses that were in work and required to spell after contracting Equine Influenza will be eligible for a $20 per day payment, which will be limited to a maximum of six weeks.

This payment will be paid to the trainers and the trainer must credit the full amount to the owners account. The trainer will receive their normal share of CHAPS if that horse was not replaced in their stable.
