MEDIA RELEASE : 22 June 2005

New Board for NSWROA

Max Whitby, well known racehorse owner, including of 2004 Cox Plate winner Savabeel and fellow Group 1 performer Econsul, was yesterday elected President of the NSW Racehorse Owners Association. Rob Albon, President for the past two years, had announced his intention to step down from the position at the Association’s AGM in May.

Whitby said the NSWROA is celebrating its 40th year as an organisation, and although the racing climate never stays the same, the NSWROA is addressing some very important issues to enhance the owners position in racing in the state. “I look forward to a challenging term as President with the vast and various issues impacting the racing industry in NSW”, he said.

In other changes on the Executive of the Association, Stephen van Eyk was elected Vice-President, while Rob Albon stays on the Executive, having been elected Secretary. Treasurer John Leslie was re-elected to that position.

Long-serving Vice-President Benedict Chan, stepping down after 10 years on the Executive, will concentrate on his dual roles of Vice-President and Treasurer of the International Racehorse Owners Association, to which he was elected at a meeting of IROA held during the Asian Racing Conference in Seoul at the end of May. Benedict remains on the Board of NSWROA, along with Noel Bracks, Chris Keogh, Paul Manning and Ray McDowell.
