Many owners do not have the resources nor the facilities to provide a good home for a racehorse at the end of its career. For those horses not destined for a stud career, the future is often bleak. A new initiative of the NSW Racehorse Owners Association is to provide the means by which horse owners may be put in contact with those able to offer a retired racehorse a good home. This service is available to NSWROA members through the Association’s website. Members will be able to post details of their horse including its age, breeding, temperament, and other information, together with contact details. The facility will also enable a photograph of the horse to be displayed. NSWROA Board Member Stephen van Eyk, who has long recognised the need for humane treatment of retired racehorses promoted this initiative which Board of the Association has enthusiastically adopted. The philosophy behind the scheme is that all our horses serve us well and deserve good treatment when their racing days are over. Those with the ability to offer a ‘good home to a good horse’ will be able to make direct contact with the owner of the horse.
